World Design Capital Valencia 2022
The project to turn Valencia into the World Capital of Design in 2022 was born from civil society, from a group of people (businessmen, professionals and members of designer associations) who began to dream of the possibility of turning Valencia into a world reference. In September 2019 that dream came true and the World Design Organization announced that Valencia would be the next World Design Capital in 2022, following the witness of the French city of Lille.
Brief & Objectives
World Design Capital València 2022 has the challenge of positioning itself as a world benchmark for design at an institutional and private level, and also as a catalyst for design in the Valencian Community and throughout Spain, both locally and internationally. An ambitious goal that needs a space, in this case virtual, the web, as a unifying element of all the actions and activities that are being launched. In addition, the web should be the space to carry out design didactics, with a large amount of its own content that addresses design from a transversal perspective to all the disciplines in which it can act as a catalyst for innovation. The objective: to position itself as a strong, open, transparent and participatory project.
The Nectar team was selected by València World Capital of Design 2022 in its first call for a project as those responsible for undertaking the challenge of creating the web. The challenge was to follow the line set by the graphic designer Ibán Ramón, responsible for the visual identity work of the Capital City and who has already obtained such recognized awards as two Red Dot awards or several Graphis for that same work.
“The success of the project has been to work cooperatively between Nectar and the València World Capital of Design 2022 team to design and create an experience that combines emotion and function.”
An identity marked by a brutalist and synthetic character, which from the studio has worked to offer optimal navigation, clear and hierarchical information, and content fully adapted to the digital context.
Like the graphic identity, we have designed a new modular system that works and adapts to each section, each screen from which it is viewed and each user need. A very intuitive website, which allows the user to locate and navigate easily, offering the information that may be of interest to them in a clear way.
A bespoke project
From Nectar we attach great importance to both the visual part and the development and management of the digital products we create. We develop 100% bespoke projects that adapt to the needs of users and the client. This greatly facilitates the life of the web management team, which can dedicate few resources to updating it, simplifying the steps, avoiding technical problems and allowing rapid updating in a project of this size with so much content and in three languages. A tool that combines simplicity, design and a lot of functionality.
